Sports Awards 2011
Team of the Year
Winner: Tameside Hockey 1st Team
In 2010/11 Tameside Hockey 1st team reached for the first time in the clubs history the final of a national competition ‘The England Hockey Vase’. It is also the first hockey club from Greater Manchester to ever reach this stage of the competition. In the same season the team also reached the final of the Cheshire plate for the first time in their history.
2nd Place: Tameside Cricket District U15's
In 2010 Tameside under 15s won the Greater Manchester East Cricket league and progressed to the quarter finals of the Ainsworth Trophy. They defeated Lancaster and Chorley districts in the quarter and semi finals before progressing to the final where they played Bolton. They narrowly lost the final but had the privilege of being one of the last teams to play at Old Trafford before the square was turned. To start in a competition against 28 other districts and to reach the final was an excellent effort underpinned by strong team work throughout.
3rd Place: Audenshaw Athletic FC
The death of a local young man saw a group of lads come together to raise money for his headstone. The match was a success and gave the lads who had played a feeling of unity and so Audenshaw Athletic was born. The team entered the Tameside division 6 and finished a respectable 11th, which was no mean feat for a group of lads who had in the main never played in a team environment before. The biggest bonus was the change in many of the lads who previously had found themselves in trouble but were now full of respect and enthusiasm for the game.
